Report finds 70% of employees suffer legal woes
As if worrying about the increasingly precarious economy isn’t enough, an alarming number of U.S. employees also are experiencing legal troubles that have diminished their morale and job performance.
A recent survey of more than 1,000 employees reveals that 70% of the respondents faced one or more legal woes and spent 57 hours at work dealing with a range of issues during a 12-month period that included family care, credit trouble, child custody, consumer fraud, home or automobile purchase or repair and estate planning.
Only one of eight respondents said they had a legal plan at work, though 70% believe it would be useful in helping resolve personal legal needs. The survey also found that 40% of employees admitted these problems had a negative impact on their focus, stress, efficiency or effectiveness on the job.
